Visions of Marin is the result of a long period of observing, exploring and enjoying Marin County. Richard Blair and Kathleen Goodwin have created a unique portrait, bringing the county to life with more than 400 photographs.

A list of chapters reveals the contents:

Blair and Goodwin’s books are different–they integrate the photography, writing, graphic design and layout themselves. It is much harder to make a book this way, but the creative freedom and artistic control result in a more cohesive and beautiful volume than the usual farm-it-out approach done by publishing houses.

Point Reyes Visions, the first of their publications, was called “the most beautiful book ever done on Marin County” by Steve McNamara, publisher of the Pacific Sun. Beth Ashley of the Marin Independent Journal wrote that “the color reproduction made the pictures leap from the page.” Tom Stienstra of the San Francisco Chronicle enthused, “when I look at the photos it’s like being hit with a tranquilizer dart.”

California Trip was their next book. Patricia Henley of the Bohemian said it should “be on every coffee table in California...it celebrates all the nuances of California.” Robert Taylor of the Contra Costa Times wrote that Richard Blair “gives an edge to what might be merely scenic, California Trip just won a gold medal as the best regional non-fiction book for the west by the Independant Publisher Book Awards.
